Dr. Jennifer Rhodes is a reproductive psychiatrist specializing in treating women across the reproductive life cycle. She specializes in the psychopharmacology of treating symptoms that may present during the different reproductive phases of a woman's life -- around menses, pre-pregnancy, post-partum, fertility/infertility, and menopause.
Women often struggle with whether or not to treat their psychiatric symptoms during pregnancy and postpartum, and get mixed - or even the wrong messages about the safety of meds during pregnancy. Unfortunately, women get taken off their meds or stop their meds prematurely, thinking that it is better for their baby to not be on medications. This is not always true and the issues are much more nuanced. There is also surprisingly little support for women going through perimenopause, despite it being a very high risk time for women to develop mood and anxiety symptoms. I can help. My practice focuses on helping women understand the current research and data regarding the benefits and risks of taking medications during this important time in a woman's life. I help women understand the relative risks of medication exposure, but also discuss the risks of being ill and symptomatic during pregnancy and postpartum. I believe that every woman has the reproductive right to feel well during during all reproductive phases of her life. I believe in a medical model to treat clinically significant depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive, insomnia, attention deficit, impulse control and bipolar disorders. In the initial consultation and throughout treatment I thoroughly review symptoms and circumstances that might be affecting your functioning both in your personal life and work life. My approach to treatment is focused on helping you improve the quality and enjoyment of all the different parts of your life. I work with you to come up with a treatment plan that works for you.
